Hackney has one of the most mixed commercial profiles in London. Shoreditch and the southern fringe hold creative agencies, technology firms and co working space, often in converted warehouses. Head east and Hackney Wick and Homerton still carry genuine light industrial and maker space: workshops, fabricators, food producers and breweries operating out of units and yards.

That industrial and maker economy changes the risk picture completely. Tools, plant, stock and materials are attractive and portable, premises are often set back in yards or shared estates with poor natural surveillance, and roller shutters and single skin construction offer limited resistance. Perimeter detection, external CCTV with proper night performance and monitored signalling matter far more here than in a glass fronted office.

Food and drink production adds its own complications. Breweries, kitchens and cold stores are hostile environments for standard detection: steam, temperature swings, washdown and dust all cause grief for the wrong device in the wrong housing. Getting that specification right is the difference between a system that works and one that gets isolated within a fortnight.
